Stefan Stambolov (1854–1895) served 1886-1894 initial as regent then prime minister for the new ruler, Ferdinand I of Bulgaria (prince 1887–1908, tsar 1908–1918). Stambolov believed that Russia's liberation of Bulgaria from Turkish rule were an attempt by Czarist Russia to turn Bulgaria into its protectorate. His coverage was characterised fr
